Comprehensive Midwifery Care, Brought to You
S & J Midwifery Care provides relationship-centered midwifery care throughout pregnancy, labor and birth, and the postpartum period. Our care is home-based, allowing us to care for you in your own home throughout your pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks with your baby.
We believe that good midwifery care brings together clinical skill and knowledge with time, education, and trust. Throughout your care, conversation, questions, education, preparation, and informed choice are central to our visits, alongside ongoing clinical assessment and monitoring for you and your baby.
Our role is not to direct your experience, but to support you with information, clinical guidance, and skilled care while honoring your autonomy, instincts, and individual needs.
Prenatal Care
Supporting you as you care for your growing baby
Your prenatal care begins with building a relationship. We come to your home for regular visits throughout pregnancy, with time to get to know you, ask questions, share information, and prepare for birth and postpartum.
We believe that you are your baby's first and most important source of care throughout pregnancy. Our role is to support your health and wellbeing, help you understand what is happening throughout your pregnancy, and provide the clinical knowledge and assessment needed to care for you and your growing baby.
During prenatal visits, we monitor your health and your baby's growth and wellbeing through routine clinical assessments, including maternal vital signs, fundal height, fetal position and growth, and fetal heart tones. We also review laboratory results, screenings, ultrasounds, and other evaluations as appropriate, and discuss nutrition, wellness, preparation for birth, and any questions or concerns that arise.
Our visits are collaborative and allow for the time needed to understand your care, talk through questions and options, and make decisions that feel right for you and your family.
Prenatal visits are generally scheduled monthly through 28 weeks, every two weeks from 28 to 36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks until birth. Visits take place in your home, with some virtual visits or check-ins when appropriate.
Labor & Birth
Honoring the wisdom of your body and the sacred process of birth
Birth is a deeply personal and powerful experience, and we are honored to be invited into it. We join you at home when the time is right and remain with you throughout labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period, bringing clinical knowledge, skill, experience, and a steady presence to your birth.
We trust the wisdom of the birthing person and the natural physiology of labor and birth. Our role is to stay present, attentive, and responsive, offering hands-on support, information, encouragement, and guidance while honoring your instincts and choices.
Throughout labor, we monitor your wellbeing and your baby's wellbeing and remain attentive to how labor is progressing. We use our clinical skills and experience to recognize normal variations, identify when additional support or intervention may be needed, and respond thoughtfully if circumstances change.
We believe safety and physiological birth are not opposing ideas. Skilled midwifery means knowing when to watch, when to wait, when to offer support, and when action is needed.
After your baby is born, we remain with you for the immediate postpartum period, providing ongoing assessment and care and supporting you and your baby as you settle into the first hours together.
Postpartum & Newborn Care
Continuity, care, and support as you settle in together
Our care continues after your baby is born, with postpartum and newborn visits in your home. We provide ongoing care for both you and your baby, with time to rest, ask questions, process your birth, and adjust to early parenthood.
During postpartum visits, we assess your physical recovery and emotional wellbeing while supporting feeding, lactation, rest, nutrition, and the transition into parenthood. We also provide ongoing newborn assessment and care, attending to your baby's growth, feeding, development, and overall wellbeing.
We believe the early weeks deserve the same thoughtful, individualized care as pregnancy and birth. Staying in your home allows us to support you and your baby as you recover, adjust, and find your rhythm as a family.
Postpartum care includes five visits during the first six weeks: Day 1 (in-person home visit within 24 hours of birth), Day 3 (virtual/Zoom), Week 1 (in-person home visit), Week 2 (virtual/Zoom), and Week 6 (in-person home visit). Throughout this time, we remain available for questions, guidance, and support as you recover, care for your baby, and adjust to life with your new family member.
